Introduction – The Invisible God Made Knowable
“No man has seen God at any time.” (John 1:18) That verse can bother people. Scripture says God talked with Moses. Abraham ate with the Lord. Isaiah said, “I saw the Lord.” So which is it? The answer is, all of those are true, but they are not the same thing.
The Bible teaches two realities at the same time:
1. God is invisible, holy, and dwells in unapproachable light (1 Timothy 6:16).
2. God chose to reveal Himself so we could actually know Him (John 1:18).
What John is saying is this, no one has ever seen the Father in His full, uncovered glory. Humanity cannot handle that. Sinful eyes can’t stare into perfect holiness. So God, in His mercy, reveals Himself in ways we can bear. That is why He appeared in the Old Testament in forms, in glory, in fire, in the Angel of the Lord. Those were real encounters, but they were accommodated encounters.
This is why Jesus came.
John 1:18 continues, “the only begotten Son... He has declared Him.” Jesus is the explanation of God. Jesus is God made visible. Jesus is the One who makes the unseen
Father knowable. If you have ever wondered, “What is God really like?” the Bible’s answer is simple: look at Jesus (John 14:9).
This little E-book is about that.
Why no one has seen God.
Why Jesus could be seen.
And how we “see” God now through Christ, the Word, and the Spirit.
