“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
Hebrews 11:3
Everything that exists only exists in two forms: the material and the immaterial. The physical world we touch, see, and measure is only half of reality. Beneath it lies an unseen realm, eternal and immaterial, where origins and destinies are determined.
Seen vs. Unseen
Paul reminds us:
“We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
What you see with your eyes is temporary. Houses crumble, nations rise and fall, bodies weaken. But what you cannot see the will, the spirit, the eternal purposes of God outlasts time itself.
Evil’s Origin in the Unseen

The immaterial realm is not just where truth and love begin. It is also where evil found its source. Jesus exposed this in John 8:44 when He declared that the devil was “a murderer from the beginning” and “the father of lies.” Father means the source. Before Cain killed Abel, before Adolf Hitler orchestrated the Holocaust, before any human thought of destruction, evil was already birthed in the unseen.
God prepared hell not for man, but for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Jude reminds us that angels who sinned are now “in chains, reserved for judgment.” Notice the word chains. Chains exist in both worlds: physical prisons and immaterial prisons. The unseen chains of rebellion and sin existed long before iron shackles were ever forged.
Choices Between Two Worlds
Belief always begins in the unseen. What you believe has immaterial evidence, but when you think, speak, and act, that belief becomes tangible. Your choices expose what’s inside of you.
Who we are as human beings our deepest beliefs and thoughts are filtered through our habits, lifestyles, and daily decisions. Choices stand between two worlds but belong to both. They start with belief in the unseen and are made visible through action.
Consider this story:
A woman moved to a new state, hoping to start a fresh life. On her very first day, she met a man. Without asking questions or taking time to discern, she entered a relationship. Her root belief was driven by low self-esteem and the desire to be accepted. That belief shaped her choice. Tragically, the man had been intentionally infecting women with HIV, carrying bitterness from his own past. She contracted the virus, and though she later found her way back to God, her life was deeply marked by the unseen beliefs that shaped her choice.
Before the duality of existence reveals itself outwardly, we always stand at the doorway of choice.
The Lamp of the Body and the Ear of the Soul
Jesus gives us principles that guard this gateway.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light.” Matthew 6:22
Your eye represents focus, vision, and alignment. If your perspective is clear and fixed on God, your whole life will reflect His light. But if your eye is divided or clouded, darkness will spread through your choices.
Jesus also warns, “Take heed how you hear.” Hearing shapes our inner world. Every word, song, or voice you entertain is an entry point of knowledge and influence. Yet even with what you hear, you still have a choice. You can decide what to believe before it becomes action.
The Integration of Two Worlds

Duality is not separation, but integration. Creation itself operates in both dimensions. Prisons, chains, and oppression exist physically, but they mirror unseen prisons of fear, guilt, or sin. Freedom too begins in the unseen before it manifests in the natural.
Even God patterned humanity after this principle.
“…The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.” Zechariah 12:1
The spirit of man existed first, before the physical body carried it. The immaterial precedes the material; the eternal precedes the temporary.
Setting Your Mind Above
Because of this, Scripture calls us to lift our focus.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2
Most people have no idea that the immaterial world is more tangible and real than the physical. The physical owes its allegiance to the unseen. What you prioritize seen or unseen shapes your destiny.
Conclusion
The duality of existence is not a contradiction but a design. Everything visible has its root in the invisible. The material is always a shadow of the immaterial. If you want to reshape your outer world, you must first align with the inner one.
Faith, vision, love, and spirit all begin in the unseen and eventually manifest in time. Evil also begins there lies, chains, and rebellion born in the spiritual world long before they appeared in history.
The greater question is: what beliefs are you feeding, and what choices are you making? Because your unseen beliefs will always become visible through your seen actions.
