Lamentations 3:22-23

22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

    • Lamentations was written after Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon (586 BC).

    • The prophet Jeremiah is grieving over the suffering of his people and the destruction of the city.

    • In the middle of this sorrow, these verses shine like a light of hope.

  2. “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed”

    • Despite judgment and destruction, God’s mercy keeps His people alive.

    • Mercies (Hebrew: hesed) means God’s covenant love, steadfast kindness, and undeserved favor.

  3. “Because His compassions fail not”

    • God’s compassion is endless—He doesn’t grow tired of forgiving, helping, or caring for His people.

    • Even when humans fail, His compassion never does.

  4. “They are new every morning”

    • Each new day brings a fresh supply of God’s mercy.

    • Just like the sunrise is faithful, so is God’s love and forgiveness.

    • Yesterday’s failures don’t exhaust today’s mercies.

  5. “Great is Your faithfulness”

    • God is reliable, trustworthy, and unchanging.

    • Even when life is chaotic, His character never shifts.

    • This phrase is the basis for the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”

  • When life feels overwhelming, remember you’re still standing because of God’s mercy.

  • When guilt or regret weighs heavy, each new day is a fresh start in God’s compassion.

  • When the world feels unstable, God’s faithfulness is the anchor that doesn’t move.
