Hebrews 1023
Hebrews 10:23 (KJV):
"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)"
-
NIV: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
-
ESV: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
-
-
Hebrews was written to Christians who were under pressure and persecution, tempted to turn back to Judaism.
-
Chapters 9–10 focus on Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice, showing that believers now have confidence to approach God through Jesus.
-
-
“Let us hold fast”
-
To “hold fast” means to cling tightly, not let go, remain firm.
-
The writer encourages Christians to stand strong in their faith, even when life gets hard.
-
-
“Profession of our faith/hope”
-
This refers to openly declaring and living by the hope we have in Christ.
-
It’s not just private belief—it’s public, consistent faith in Jesus.
-
-
“Without wavering”
-
The command is to remain steady—not doubting, not drifting, not compromising.
-
Wavering faith gets tossed around (James 1:6), but here the call is for stability.
-
-
“For He is faithful that promised”
-
The reason we can hold on is not because of our strength but because of God’s faithfulness.
-
God’s promises (eternal life, forgiveness, presence, victory) are certain, because He never breaks His word (Numbers 23:19, 2 Timothy 2:13).
-
-
Stay rooted in hope. Life brings trials, doubts, and temptations to give up, but we cling to God’s promises.
-
Faith isn’t about feelings. Even when circumstances look dark, our confidence rests in God’s unchanging character.
-
Endurance is key. This verse is a call to spiritual perseverance—don’t let the world or hardship shake you off the foundation of Christ.
Hebrews 10:23 is urging believers: Keep your grip on your faith and hope in Christ. Don’t waver. God is faithful, and His promises will never fail you.
