WHAT AM I AGREEING WITH?

WHAT AM I AGREEING WITH?

The Power of Agreement: Be Careful What You Allow to Influence Your Life

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is: What am I agreeing with?

Every day, we’re surrounded by conversations, opinions, emotions, thoughts, and influences. But have you ever considered that not everything you hear deserves your agreement?

Sometimes we unknowingly agree with fear, negativity, disappointment, bitterness, and limitations simply because we’ve heard them repeatedly.

The danger is that what we continuously agree with can eventually influence what we believe, how we think, and the decisions we make.

1. Agreement Influences Your Direction

Amos 3:3 (KJV)

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Agreement creates alignment.

You cannot consistently walk in one direction while allowing your thinking to be controlled by something pulling you in another.

This is why we must be careful about the conversations we entertain and the voices we allow to influence our lives.

Not everyone who speaks into your life is speaking from wisdom. Some people speak from their fears, disappointments, insecurities, and personal experiences.

You can love people without agreeing with their perspective.

And you can listen to someone without allowing their words to determine your future.

2. Agreement Begins in Your Thinking

Romans 12:2 (KJV)

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Notice that transformation begins with the renewing of our minds.

Sometimes we’re praying for God to change our circumstances while continuing to agree with the same thinking that keeps us discouraged, frustrated, and defeated.

We agree with the thought that nothing will ever change.

We agree that people cannot grow.

We agree that our past determines our future.

But what if the greatest change we need is not in our surroundings but in our thinking?

You cannot develop a renewed life while continually embracing an old mindset.

God wants us to examine what we’re believing, not simply react to everything we’re experiencing.

3. Agreement Requires Discernment

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

Just because a thought enters your mind doesn’t mean it deserves a place in your heart.

Every thought doesn’t come from wisdom.

Every emotion doesn’t reveal the truth.

And every opinion doesn’t deserve your agreement.

This is why spiritual maturity requires discernment.

You can acknowledge a difficult situation without agreeing that it’s hopeless.

You can recognize someone’s mistakes without agreeing that they have no value.

You can experience disappointment without agreeing that your future is over.

Faith doesn’t require us to deny reality. Faith teaches us to view reality through the wisdom and promises of God.

Final Thought: Examine Your Agreements

Maybe the question we should begin asking every morning is not simply, “What am I going to accomplish today?”

Perhaps a better question is:

What am I agreeing with today?

Am I agreeing with fear or faith?

Am I agreeing with bitterness or forgiveness?

Am I agreeing with limitations or possibilities?

Am I agreeing with the opinions of people or the wisdom of God?

Remember, everything you hear does not deserve your belief, and everything you feel does not deserve your agreement.

Be intentional about what you allow to shape your thinking.

Because what you repeatedly agree with can influence the direction of your life.

Choose to agree with what produces faith, love, wisdom, growth, and the character of Jesus Christ.
