The Phases of the Anointing

The Phases of the Anointing

Growing Through Different Seasons of Faithfulness

Many believers misunderstand the anointing.

The anointing is not measured by:

  • popularity
  • money
  • titles
  • followers
  • time in ministry

God measures the anointing through:

  • spiritual maturity
  • obedience
  • transformation
  • humility
  • faithfulness through seasons

Most believers want the next phase of ministry while refusing to pass the current phase of transformation.

The kingdom of God works in phases.

Every believer begins in phase one. Then through obedience, faithfulness, humility, and spiritual growth, God introduces them into the next phase of purpose.

Phase One - The Carnal Believer

Every believer begins here.

This is the phase of:

  • salvation
  • learning
  • immaturity
  • emotional instability
  • renewing the mind
  • overcoming fleshly habits

Many believers unfortunately stay in this phase for years.

First Epistle to the Corinthians 3:1–3 says:

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it…

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions…”

This phase is not condemnation.

It is development.

But many believers never graduate because they refuse transformation.

If a person is still:

  • constantly cussing people out
  • walking in unforgiveness
  • controlled by anger
  • operating in jealousy
  • full of division
  • unwilling to grow

they are still operating in the first phase of spiritual maturity.

The danger is many people become gifted in phase one without becoming transformed.

Giftedness may attract people.

But only transformation sustains kingdom authority.

Epistle to the Romans 12:2 says:

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

The first phase is where God begins renewing the mind and exposing areas that still need healing and maturity.

Phase Two - The Faithful Servant

The second phase is where God begins shaping purpose, discipline, stewardship, and leadership through service.

This is the phase of:

  • serving faithfully
  • hidden obedience
  • sacrifice
  • consistency
  • humility
  • endurance
  • discipleship
  • preparation

Most people want public ministry while rejecting private development.

But God watches how people serve before He expands influence.

David was faithful with sheep before he was trusted with a kingdom.

Joseph was faithful in prison before entering the palace.

Elisha served Elijah before receiving a double portion.

For me personally, phase two involved:

  • Bible school
  • serving faithfully as an assistant pastor
  • learning leadership
  • serving people consistently
  • growing through obedience and discipline
  • learning ministry foundations while also growing in business responsibility

Gospel of Luke 16:10 says:

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…”

This phase often feels hidden and unnoticed.

But hidden seasons build stable foundations.

Many people quit in this phase because they think nothing is happening.

But spiritually, everything is happening.

Epistle to the Galatians 6:9 says:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

This is the season where believers learn:

  • consistency over emotion
  • obedience over recognition
  • faithfulness over popularity

Phase Three - Walking in Assignment

The third phase is when a believer begins walking more fully in their kingdom assignment and influence.

Not perfectly.

But with greater maturity, wisdom, discernment, and responsibility.

This phase comes after years of:

  • testing
  • pruning
  • obedience
  • failures
  • growth
  • hidden preparation

This is where ministry becomes less about self and more about serving people and advancing the kingdom of God.

For me personally:

  • phase one was becoming a believer
  • phase two involved Bible school, assistant pastor leadership, serving faithfully, and learning obedience through ministry and business
  • phase three became senior pastor leadership, healthcare ministry, business leadership, and becoming a healthcare advocate through serving seniors and families

But there are still more phases ahead.

No mature believer believes they have fully arrived.

Growth in the kingdom never stops.

Second Epistle to Timothy 4:7 says:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Every believer must remain faithful to finish their course.

Many people start ministry.

Few remain faithful through every phase.

The Anointing Is Connected to Transformation

Many people think the anointing is only:

  • preaching ability
  • charisma
  • gifts
  • influence
  • emotional experiences

But true anointing is deeply connected to transformation.

God trusts transformed people with greater oil.

The deeper the surrender,

the deeper the anointing.

Gospel of Luke 9:23 says:

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

The anointing grows as:

  • pride decreases
  • love increases
  • forgiveness develops
  • obedience matures
  • humility deepens

God is not impressed by outward success without inward transformation.

Many Never Graduate Spiritually

One of the saddest realities in ministry is that many believers never graduate spiritually. Not because God rejected them.

But because they rejected growth.

Some stop growing because:

  • offense controls them
  • bitterness controls them
  • pride controls them
  • comfort controls them
  • immaturity controls them

Growth requires death to the flesh.

Every new phase requires another level of surrender.

Epistle of James 1:12 says:

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life…”

Every phase has tests.

And every test reveals maturity.

Finish Your Course and Stay Faithful

One of the greatest victories in life is not simply starting well.

It is finishing faithfully.

Many believers begin with passion but lose consistency over time.

But God honors endurance.

Gospel of Matthew 24:13 says:

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”

The higher the assignment,

the greater the responsibility.

Each phase demands:

  • deeper wisdom
  • stronger discernment
  • greater humility
  • more patience
  • greater self-control

God does not promote people simply because they are talented.

He promotes people who remain faithful through every season.

Crown of Life — The Reward of Faithfulness

Epistle of James 1:12 says:

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

There is a reward for remaining faithful through every phase of life.

The crown of life is not about earthly popularity, money, or status.

It represents:

  • spiritual victory
  • endurance
  • faithfulness
  • overcoming trials
  • remaining loyal to God through testing

Every phase of ministry comes with pressure.

Phase one has the pressure of carnality and immaturity.

Phase two has the pressure of hidden service, sacrifice, and consistency.

Phase three has the pressure of leadership, responsibility, spiritual warfare, and carrying greater weight.

But God promises that those who endure faithfully will receive the crown of life.

This does not mean believers will never struggle.

It means they continue trusting God while growing through the struggle.

Many people quit in the middle of their process because the testing becomes uncomfortable.

But the testing is not always punishment.

Sometimes the testing is preparation for the next phase of anointing.

God develops:

  • patience through waiting
  • humility through correction
  • wisdom through experience
  • compassion through suffering
  • maturity through endurance

Every test is revealing what still needs transformation.

Every season is preparing believers for greater responsibility.

The crown of life belongs to believers who:

  • remain faithful
  • endure trials
  • continue growing
  • stay humble
  • keep loving God through every phase

The goal is not simply to start ministry.

The goal is to finish faithfully.

Second Epistle to Timothy 4:7 says:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Finishing your course requires:

  • obedience
  • endurance
  • consistency
  • humility
  • spiritual maturity

Many people desire the anointing.

But few desire the process that produces lasting oil.

The crown comes after endurance.

The maturity comes after testing.

And the deeper anointing comes after faithfulness through every phase of life.

Final Thoughts

The goal is not titles.

The goal is transformation.

The goal is becoming more like Christ through every season of life.

Some believers are still in phase one learning how to overcome carnality.

Others are in phase two learning faithfulness and service.

Others are entering greater levels of assignment and influence.

But every phase matters.

Never despise small beginnings.

Never rush the process.

Every season is preparing you for the next one.

Stay faithful.

Finish your course.

Pass the tests of obedience.

Remain humble through every phase.

And remember:

The anointing grows through obedience, maturity, humility, faithfulness, and transformation.
