The Door of Eternity: Why Spiritual Curiosity Without Christ Opens the Wrong Doors

The Door of Eternity: Why Spiritual Curiosity Without Christ Opens the Wrong Doors

In today’s culture, many people describe themselves as “spiritual but not religious.” They talk about energy, the universe, burning sage, incense rituals, manifestation, crystals, or even using tools like Ouija boards to explore the spiritual realm. On the surface, these practices are often presented as peaceful, mysterious, or even harmless.

But one of the greatest misunderstandings in our culture is this:

Many people think Jesus Christ represents a religion instead of a relationship with a living person.

Christianity was never meant to be merely a religious system or a set of traditions. At its core, it is about knowing a person Jesus Christ. Without that relationship, people often search for spiritual meaning through other practices, unknowingly opening themselves to confusion and deception.

The Bible teaches that eternity has a framework. There is order to the spiritual world, and there is a specific way God designed for humanity to connect with Him.

The Importance of the Door

Jesus did not present Himself as just another spiritual teacher among many options. He made a very clear and powerful statement about access to God.

John 10:9

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Jesus describes Himself as the door. A door is a point of entry. It determines what comes in and what stays out. Spiritually speaking, this means Christ is the gateway to truth, protection, and eternal life.

When people attempt to reach spiritual fulfillment outside of Him, they are essentially trying to enter through another door.

When Spiritual Curiosity Opens Spiritual Doors

The spiritual world is real, and the Bible warns that not every spiritual practice is safe or wise.

Throughout scripture, God warns His people about seeking supernatural influence outside of Him.

Deuteronomy 18:10–12

“Let no one be found among you who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft… Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.

Many modern practices fall into this same category when they are used to contact spirits, cleanse spiritual energy, or gain supernatural insight.

For example:

• Burning sage is often used in spiritual rituals to “cleanse negative energy” or invite spiritual forces.

• Incense rituals in certain spiritual traditions are used to call on unseen spiritual presences.

• Ouija boards are specifically designed to communicate with spirits.

• Practices involving crystals, manifestation, or energy manipulation attempt to influence the spiritual realm through human effort.

While these things may seem harmless to some, they can function as spiritual invitations doors that allow influences into a person’s life that they may not fully understand.

This is why the Bible consistently warns believers not to experiment with spiritual practices that attempt to manipulate unseen forces.

The Difference Between Creation and the Creator

Many spiritual movements today emphasize connection to the earth, nature, or the universe. While creation is beautiful and reflects God’s glory, the Bible reminds us that creation itself is not meant to be worshiped or treated as a spiritual authority.

Romans 1:25

“They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.”

The earth, plants, incense, and natural elements are part of God’s creation but they were never meant to become spiritual tools for power or guidance.

When people begin looking to creation for spiritual answers instead of the Creator, they often step into spiritual confusion.

A Story About the Right Door

Imagine a traveler arriving in a city late at night. He has been walking for hours and desperately needs a safe place to stay. In front of him stands a large building with many different doors.

Some doors glow with colorful lights. Others promise knowledge, power, or hidden mysteries. One door promises protection and rest.

But only one door actually leads to safety.

If the traveler chooses a door based only on appearance, he may walk into confusion or danger. But if someone who knows the building stands outside and says, “This is the door that leads to safety,” the wise traveler listens.

Jesus stands before humanity in the same way. In a world filled with spiritual options and practices, He simply says:

“I am the door.”

Protection From Deception

The closer a person walks with Christ, the clearer their spiritual understanding becomes.

John 8:32

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Truth protects us from deception. When Christ is the foundation of our spiritual life, we are not easily pulled into every new spiritual trend or idea that promises enlightenment.

Instead, we live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Relationship, Not Religion

The message of the gospel has never been about joining a religious club or following empty rituals. It is about reconnecting humanity with the God who created us.

1 Timothy 2:5

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”

Jesus is not merely a historical figure or religious symbol. He is the living bridge between humanity and God.

Without Him, people search endlessly for spiritual answers. With Him, they find the truth their hearts have been seeking all along.

Choosing the Right Door

Ever  person will eventually walk through a spiritual door. The question is not whether we will choose a door, but which door we will choose.

Jesus does not force anyone to follow Him. Instead, He lovingly invites people to come.

When we embrace Him, we find more than religion we  find truth, clarity, protection, and eternal life.
