Suicide Is Not the Answer
Written With a Pastor’s Heart and a Weeping Soul
There are some subjects that touch every one of us. Suicide is one of them.
It hurts deeply, especially when it has touched our own families, our friends, or our memories. Many of us carry names in our hearts that never leave us. Moments we wish we could change. Conversations we replay. Love that still lingers.
As a pastor, I have had to minister and pray with several families who have walked through this kind of loss. I have stood in living rooms filled with silence where laughter once lived. I have prayed with parents who could barely breathe through their tears. I have watched strong people collapse under the weight of grief.
Years ago, I entered a home where someone had taken their own life. This was not a stranger to me. This was someone who loved me, babysat me, protected me, and treated me like their own little brother. We shared time together. We shared life. And now they were gone.
The memories were overwhelming.
The reality was crushing.
My heart melted in ways I did not know it could.
Scripture says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” Psalm 30:5. At the time, morning felt far away. But Jesus met me in that place, not with quick explanations, but with a peace that held me when words could not.
I want to speak clearly and gently to anyone who is hurting.
If you are struggling.
If you feel overwhelmed.
If you do not feel like living anymore.
Please hear this.
Do not give up.
Pain has a way of narrowing our vision. It convinces us that this moment is permanent and that relief will only come through escape. But pain does not get the final word.
The Bible says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and He saves those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:18. God does not stand at a distance from your pain. He draws near to it.
Your life matters.
Even when you feel empty.
Even when you feel tired.
Even when you feel forgotten.
The Father sees you.
The Word tells us, “For you formed my inward parts, You covered me in my mother’s womb… I am fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:13 and 14. Your life was created with intention. You are not an accident. You are not expendable.
I believe this with all my heart.
Your life is a gift meant to touch someone else’s life.
You may not see who yet. You may not know how. But your breath still carries purpose. Your presence still matters.
Jesus Himself said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” John 10:10. Abundant life does not mean pain free life. It means a life held, sustained, and redeemed by God.
If you are struggling, please talk to someone. Reach out to a trusted friend, a family member, a pastor, or a counselor. You were never meant to carry this alone.
Scripture reminds us, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2. Help is not weakness. It is love in action.
And if you are reading this while grieving someone you have lost, know this. God sees your tears. He is gentle with your questions. He keeps your broken pieces close.
The Bible says, “The Lord is close to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth” Psalm 145:18.
Jesus helped me find peace in a moment I never thought I would survive. He can help you too.
Do not quit.
Do not isolate.
Do not believe the lie that your life does not matter.
It does.

A Small Prayer
Father God,
I come to You with a heavy heart and tears that You already see.
For every person reading this who is hurting, draw near to them right now.
Breathe hope where despair has tried to settle.
Remind them that their life is precious, loved, and full of purpose.
Heal the brokenhearted. Strengthen the weary.
And for those of us carrying grief, wrap us in Your peace.
We trust You, even here.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
