Not everything we consume is harmless. Some things are more than habits they are portals.
The Trap of Substances
Drinking liquor and using drugs may seem like entertainment or temporary relief, but they open a door. That door often leads to addiction, cycles of brokenness, and ultimately death. The Bible warns us in Proverbs 20:1, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”
What begins as a sip or a smoke can quickly become a pattern. Patterns form cycles, and cycles shape destinies.
Inanimate Objects, Spiritual Outcomes
Like money or a gun, liquor and drugs are inanimate. On their own, they are just objects. But once mixed with human desire, pain, or escape, they become tools. Tools that the enemy can use to distract, distort, and destroy.
Romans 6:16 reminds us, “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey?” Choosing substances as a master leads to bondage, but choosing God leads to freedom.
God’s Way Is Life
Jesus offered a different kind of drink. In John 4:14, He said, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The world’s substances create thirst that never ends. God’s Spirit satisfies thirst forever.
Final Word
Addiction is a portal that leads to destruction. The Spirit of God is a portal that leads to life. Every choice opens a door so choose carefully which door you walk through.
