People Think Jesus Is a Religion: But He Is Life

People often say Jesus is a religion something to follow, something to attend, something to practice. But this week reminds us of something deeper. This is the time we celebrate Jesus Christ-His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. And when you really understand it, you realize… He didn’t come to give us religion.

He came to give us life.

A Story of Freedom

There was a man whose life had completely fallen apart. Bad decisions led him down a road he never thought he would travel. One mistake turned into another, and before long, he found himself sitting in a prison cell physically locked in, but even more so spiritually bound.

Days turned into nights, and nights into years. Regret became his companion. Shame whispered to him daily. He felt forgotten not just by people, but by God.

One night, sitting on the cold floor of his cell, something shifted. Not around him but within him.

He remembered something he had once heard as a child…
That Jesus saves.
That Jesus forgives.
That Jesus brings life to what feels dead.

With nothing left, he cried out not perfectly, not religiously, but honestly:

“Lord… if You’re real, help me.”

And in that moment, something supernatural happened.

The chains didn’t just fall off his hands
They broke off his heart.

Peace flooded in. Hope returned. Life awakened inside of him.

And in time, what happened spiritually became visible naturally he was released. Not just from prison, but from the man he used to be.

He walked out free not because he was perfect, but because he encountered Jesus, not religion.

This Is Why We Celebrate

We don’t weep this week out of sadness—we weep because of gratitude.

Because Jesus didn’t stay in the grave.
Because what was dead… came back to life.
And because that same life now lives in us.

📖 Scripture

Romans 10:9–10 (NKJV)
“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

John 11:25 (NKJV)
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’”

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

 Final Thought

People may think Jesus is just a religion but He is the One who:
    •    Brings the dead back to life
    •    Opens prison doors
    •    Restores what was broken
    •    Gives salvation that lives in the heart

And that’s why we celebrate.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Jesus Christ, His death, His burial, His resurrection, and His ascension. Thank You for the life that we now have through Him. We are grateful beyond words for the salvation that lives in our hearts.

Lord, remind us that You are not just something we follow you are life itself. Strengthen us in this new season. Restore anything that feels broken. And help us walk in the freedom You have already given us.

Let every heart be renewed, every mind be strengthened, and every life reflect Your power and love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
