Kingdom Leadership: Supplementing Your Income Begins in the Mind
Many people want to supplement their income, but before you can supplement your income, you must first train your mind.
Your mind is immaterial. It cannot be strengthened by lifting weights. It is developed by teaching it how to think.
Everything begins with thought.
First, decide what you want. Set clear goals. See yourself accomplishing them. Then allow your words, affirmations, and daily conversations to reinforce that vision until it becomes part of your awareness.
What dominates your mind eventually directs your life.
I remember when I was in high school, my first job was at a hamburger restaurant. As I grew older, I worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, and Sam’s Club while attending college. Those jobs were a blessing because they taught me responsibility, consistency, and the value of work.
Eventually, something amazing happened. I had the privilege of working alongside my incredible parents, Johnny and Rose King, serving as their Assistant Pastor for many years. I loved ministry, I loved God’s people, and I loved the church.
As I got married and started raising a family, I realized I needed to create additional income beyond my pastoral responsibilities.
I tried many different things.
Some worked.
Many failed..
Looking back, I realize my greatest limitation wasn’t a lack of desire it was a limited way of thinking. Being a “church boy,” I knew ministry well, but I had very little exposure to entrepreneurship, intellectual property, royalties, or multiple streams of income.
Then God brought someone into my life.
A Jewish man named David gave me an opportunity to work with him in music. I lived in Texas, and he lived in Valencia, California. We collaborated online for several years.
As David continued growing professionally, he eventually began working in the trailer music industry, producing music for movie trailers, television promotions, and major media campaigns. Individual trailer placements could generate anywhere from $50,000 to over $200,000 for a project, depending on the production and licensing agreements.
The trailers were used to promote movies, television shows, and other media productions. Through that experience, I was exposed to an entirely different world one I didn’t even know existed.
The amazing part was that David didn’t forget about me.
Because I had been loyal, he continued opening doors.
He introduced me to the importance of obtaining my ASCAP writer and publisher affiliations so some of my music could be properly registered for film and television placements.
Since 2009, our music has continued generating royalty income, and those royalty checks are still arriving today.
One relationship…
One opportunity…
One idea…
Created another stream of income that has lasted for years.
Leadership expanded my thinking.
Exposure expanded my vision.
Relationships expanded my opportunities.
Today, multiple streams of income have emerged not because I chased money, but because I continued growing, learning, serving, and stewarding opportunities God placed in front of me.
Never despise your job.
A job is a blessing.
It gives you stability.
It teaches discipline.
It provides a foundation.
But don’t believe your job is your ceiling.
Your income is not limited to your employer.
God has placed gifts, ideas, creativity, relationships, and opportunities inside of you that can create value far beyond a paycheck.
Continue serving faithfully.
Continue learning.
Continue developing ideas.
Continue expanding your thinking.
You never know who God will use to open the next door.
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
“For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Ecclesiastes 11:2 (NKJV)
“Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.”
Proverbs 18:16 (NKJV)
“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.”
Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…”
Leadership Principle
Don’t just work for income. Develop your mind, steward your gifts, cultivate relationships, and pursue God-given ideas. A paycheck may provide your living, but your God-given ideas can help shape your future.
