Governing Your Gates: The Body Is a Gate Who You Allow Access To
Family, there is something powerful about realizing this truth. God cares about the whole you. Not just your prayer life. Not just your worship. Not just your emotions.
God is interested in your spirit, your soul, and your body being aligned and healthy because that is what wholeness looks like.
And the Bible says it plainly.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
That verse is the blueprint for balance. Spirit, soul, and body complete. You should never devalue any part of your nature. The goal is not to worship the body, but it also is not to ignore it.
Spirit Soul and Body All Matter
You are a three part being.
Your spirit is the real you, the part that connects with God.
Your soul is your mind, will, emotions, memory, and personality.
Your body is your earthly vessel, your physical environment, and your point of contact with the natural world.
The spirit should lead.
The soul should be renewed.
And the body should be disciplined.
A Healthy Correction Our Body Is Not Fully Redeemed Yet
Here is an important balance.
Yes, Christ has redeemed us, but we are still waiting on the full redemption of the body. That means your spirit can be born again instantly, but your body still carries cravings, impulses, fatigue, hormones, habits, and appetites that must be trained.
That is not condemnation. That is maturity.
That is why believers must learn to tame and discipline the body until it agrees with the life of God inside them.
When You Love God Your Body Should Follow
When a person says, I love God, their body should eventually fall in line with that reality.
Because your body is not neutral. It is a vessel. It will submit to something, either spirit led discipline or flesh led impulses.
Romans 12:1 teaches us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. That means, Lord, my body belongs to You.
But many believers get stuck focusing on only one part.
Some focus only on spirit and ignore the soul.
Some focus only on emotions and ignore discipline.
Some focus only on the mind and neglect spiritual growth.
Yet God is calling us into wholeness.
Mortifying the Deeds of the Body
The body has impulses, needs, memory, and an environment.
So the body becomes a mirror. It reveals attachment. It shows what you are connected to. It shows what still has influence over you.
That is why Scripture teaches us to mortify, meaning put to death, the deeds of the body. Not by willpower alone, but by the Spirit.
Five Verses to Anchor This
Romans 12:1
Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless.
Romans 8:13
If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
1 Corinthians 6:19 to 20
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and you are not your own.
Galatians 5:16
Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
The Body Is a Gate
This is where it gets real.
Your body is a gate because it controls what enters your life through your eyes, through your ears, through your mouth, through your environment, and through your access.
And how you use your body reveals what you are attached to.
Sometimes it is not a demon. Sometimes it is an unhealthy attachment that still has permission.
Abraham and Isaac Sacrifice Broke More Than One Thing
Abraham was told to sacrifice his son for multiple reasons.
Isaac was a type and shadow of Christ being offered for the world.
But also Isaac had become a potential idol that Abraham needed to detach from.
God was teaching Abraham, Do you love the promise more than the Promise Giver.
That moment produced spiritual breakthrough, but also a soul tie and physical breakthrough because Abraham had to obey God in the body.
Sometimes deliverance looks like obedience. Sometimes freedom looks like sacrifice.
Detaching From People Who Have Too Much Access
Just like your family, your friends, or even someone you are dating can become a hindrance, there are times when people have been given too much access.
The minute you connect with them they start giving opinions. They start speaking negative. They start poisoning the atmosphere. They start pulling you off course.
And the only way to break some cords is to detach.
Not in hatred and not in bitterness, but in wisdom.
Because negative people cannot influence you unless they have access.
Your Body Is the Vessel That Grants Access
Your body is the vessel that gives people access to your eyes, what you watch, your ears, what you listen to, your mouth, what you repeat, your presence, who you sit around, and your attention, who gets your time.
And the key is this.
God gave you authority over what enters your life and what exits your life.
Sometimes the sacrifice God is asking for is not more prayer. Sometimes the sacrifice is less permission.
A Leadership Reality Teaching People To Respect Your Gates
There comes a time you may have to cut people off because they have been given too much access. You may have to remove them because they have had too much permission. This teaches and trains them how to respect you..
That is discipline.
That is stewardship.
That is governing your gates.
